Dr. Ahmed Fatah

Post-Doc Researcher, CIPR

Dr. Ahmed Fatah joined the Center for Integrative Petroleum Research (CIPR) in June 2023 as a Postdoctoral Researcher, the College of Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia. His research interest focuses on carbon dioxide & hydrogen geological storage, and chemical EOR, in which he authored multiple technical and review papers. He holds a Ph.D. degree from Curtin University, a MSc and BSc degrees from University Technology PETRONAS, all in Petroleum Engineering. During his doctoral research, Dr. Fatah investigated the possibility of CO2 storage in shale formations, and he gained wide expertise in geo-energy storage applications, in terms of rock/gas interactions, contact angle evaluation, and geochemical modelling. Currently, he is involved in many collaborative research studies with Curtin University (Australia & Malaysia) and Saudi Aramco.

Dr. Xiao Deng

Post-Doc Researcher, CIPR

Dr. Xiao Deng is a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Integrative Petroleum Research (CIPR) at KFUPM. His primary research interests encompass the wetting behavior of fluids on rock surface, and the mechanisms and impact of wettability alteration on oil recovery. He possesses a keen interest in chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (cEOR), especially in the application of surfactants, nanofluids, chelating agents, etc., in the naturally fractured, oil-wet reservoirs.

Dr. AbdAllah AbdRabElNaby Youssef ElSaieed

Currently, I’m part of the petrophysics group in CIPR. Before joining CIPR, I obtained my PhD from The University of Melbourne, Australia. My work was part of GeoCQuest project, involving a close collaboration between the three leading universities: Stanford, Cambridge and Melbourne. My research targeted generating upscaled rate-dependent anisotropic saturation functions for meso-scale heterogeneity through analyzing multi-phase flow in fluvio-deltaic Parraatte formation at the CO2CRC’s Otway International Test Centre, Australia. In 2018, I obtained my master degree in Petroleum Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.

Dr. Amro Othman

Post-Doc Researcher, CIPR

Amro Othman has a Ph.D. in the Petroleum Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). Since he joined KFUPM in 2019 he worked in different research area which includes hydraulic fracturing treatments and water shut-off remediation. He has expertise in formulating fresh and saline water fracturing fluids as well as their performance with proppants.

He has experience with emulsions and their applications in water shut-off. He also uses artificial intelligence and its applications in petroleum engineering.

Dr. Xin Liu

Post-Doc Researcher, CIPR

Xin Liu joined CIPR as a postdoctoral researcher in October 2024. She holds a Ph.D. in Energy Resources and Petroleum Engineering from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. She earned her master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering and her bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering. Before pursuing her Ph.D., she worked at SINOPEC as an assistant engineer for five years. Her research focuses on applying artificial intelligence to Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences.
