The Department of Geosciences takes a balanced approach between education and research to nurture students who are competent in theory and application, for the skills needed in their industrial or post-graduate careers.

Through the combination of world-leading laboratories and teaching facilities, superior field study experiences, exemplary computer technology, and software, and excellent research opportunities, the Department of Geosciences allows students to acquire unparalleled skills and knowledge.

The majority of the geosciences graduates find employment with government agencies, and with industries related to oil and gas, mining, environmental consulting, and water resources. Previous graduates have been employed by Saudi Aramco, Schlumberger, Saudi Geological Survey, Ministry of Water and Electricity, and many others.

The Department of Geosciences is guided by the umbrella missions of the University and its newly formed College. The University mission is “to be a preeminent institution known for its globally competitive graduates, cutting edge research, and leadership in energy discoveries”. Furthermore, the Department aligns with the vision of the College of Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences “in aspiring to be global leader in the integration of geosciences and petroleum engineering education and research relevant to discovery and recovery of hydrocarbon resources with minimum impact on the environment”.
