CPG

The Laboratory Technical Support & Services (LTS&S) organization was created to meet the long-term aspiration of the College of Petroleum Engineering & Geoscience (CPG).

The objective of this is to facilitate the educational and research activities at CPG. LTS&S is organized into five functions including support of educational and research laboratories, digital facilities, streamline laboratory equipment procurement process and develop and deploy operational health safety and environment standards, policies and culture.

LTS&S comprised of trained professionals who maintain and operate all educational and research equipment in a safe and proficient manner. Ensure all equipment are appropriately calibrated, and hence, elevate and maintain high standards of research and educational outputs.

LTS&S is proactively preparing all laboratories of the college to migrate to the new facilities to be complete in 2019. In addition, the LTS&S team is also leading the drive to design, procure new educational and research facilities aligned with the aspirations of CPG.

I am proud to have the opportunity to lead LTS&S with quality and high-standard employees who not only achieve their goals but thrive to excel.

Laboratory Technical Services & Support

Laboratory Technical Support & Services (LTS&S)

To meet the long-term aspiration of the College of Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience (CPG) at KFUPM, a Laboratory Technical Support & Services team was created. The goal of this team is to provide support and services in the areas of operation and maintenance of teaching and research laboratories, digital facilities, laboratory equipment procurement and operations health safety and environment. LTSS are team consists of trained professionals who maintain and operate all equipment in a safe and proficient manner.

Teaching Laboratories (TLs)

Teaching laboratories offer state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure that enable effective delivery of learning content. This is an integral scientific distinction that has created differentiation in our offerings. The resources in teaching laboratories have been organized in such a fashion that faculty members are disseminating practical knowledge in a safe and effective manner which is unique in the academic world.

Research Laboratories (RLs)

Like teaching laboratories, the Research Laboratories (RLs) are also equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure that enable researchers to carry out fundamental research and develop unique ideas and workflows. The research laboratories are closely supervised for operational safety and maintenance. LTSS team also ensure equipment are maintained and calibrated on a regular basis.

Digital Facilities (DFs)

Digital Facilities (DFs) have received special attention as they represent the "Digital Façade" of the college when providing high standard computing services, maintenance, support and supervision for graduate and undergraduate computing requirements. Furthermore, the digital facility is responsible for the organizing and supporting high power computing requirements for the college.

Technical Support (TS)

Technical support is a key supply chain function for LTSS. The team has been serving as the catalyst for researchers and laboratory coordinators by encoding and documenting specifications, generating cost estimates, selecting vendors, and liaising with the procurement department for the college. Ensuring appropriate equipment setup, commissioning and training in collaboration with department heads. Another vital role of the team is to systematically encode tags on supplies and inventories and manage inventories. They also liaison with KFUPM Laboratory Technical Support Organization department for chemicals and supply management, ensuring all major requirements of teaching and research laboratories are met. The technical support function also deployed Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for the college. All teaching and research laboratories, equipment, computing facilities, and meeting rooms are managed by the online LIMS system. The LIMS system keeps records of operations, repairs, calibration and maintenance schedules of all teaching and research laboratories.

Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE)

OHSE team was formed to introduce the occupational health, safety and environment culture throughout the college. The team has deployed, and constantly, monitor standard equipment operations and procedures introduced safety training, organize routine management safety inspections. The OHSE team also supports teaching and research laboratories to deploy remedial measures for any unsafe environment as identified by the KFUPM HSE committee during regular inspections. The team has further deployed standard safety sign installation campaign, PPE deployment, regular inspection and refurbishment of first aid toolbox, safety equipment, and employee working hours.
