Abstract: The mining industry is expected to grow due to the demand for energy, metals, industrial minerals and raw materials for anticipated population growth and expected improvement in standard of living around the world. There are common practices in the mining industry that have evolved over millennia and especially in the past few decades. Recent advances have focused on health and safety, robotics, electrification, and being environmentally friendly. Mining companies are striving to meet and be compatible with the UN sustainable development goals and this has changed the way they look at different projects and solutions. Many of the challenges can be met by using proper technologies. This presentation covers the current state of practice and recent advances as well as outlook for future technologies including space and deep sea mining.
