The program, designed with feedback from an array of international experts in industry and academia, provides every student with a solid foundation in traditional knowledge such as engineering fundamentals, mining geology, mineral processing, and a variety of mining engineering topics such as mining methods, geomechanics, ventilation, and health and safety. Students may additionally choose to specialize in advanced topics related to machine learning and unmanned aerial systems, or focus on operational best practices such as mine systems analysis or blasting and waste management, or explore the frontiers of mining with resource estimation, business data development and utilization in mining, and unmanned aerial vehicle applications to exploration.

The introduction of the Mining Science & Engineering program is an important step to support the advancement of the mining industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The sector is anticipated to play a crucial role in the nation’s ambitions for economic diversification and meeting one of the goals of the Vision 2030 plan in making mining to make mining the third pillar of Saudi Arabia’s economy, after oil and gas and petrochemicals.

The Importance of the Mining Program

The mining sector has a significant impact on the world economy. It supplies raw materials for numerous industries, including manufacturing, energy, and construction. Millions of people worldwide find employment in the mining sector. The mining industry is still in its early phases of growth in Saudi Arabia. The government, however, has a strategic vision to develop the industry and turn it into a significant engine of economic expansion. The Mining Science & Engineering program initiative is intended to play an important role in contributing to that vision. The program will aid in educating Saudi Arabia’s upcoming mining workforce. The growth of the mining industry and the diversification of the Saudi economy will depend heavily on these individuals.
