Empowering the Future of Mining: KFUPM-CPG at FMF 2025 – Bridging Innovation, Education, and Industry Collaboration.
The College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences (CPG) represented King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) at the prestigious Future Minerals Forum (FMF) 2025, a leading platform for global industry connections.
The CPG delegation was headed by the Dean of CPG, Dr. Ali Alyousef and included the chairmen, Dr. Dhafer Al-Shehri and Dr. John Humphrey, as well as distinguished professors among the Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences departments and the new Mining Science and Engineering Program including Dr. Shirish Patil, Dr. Sulaiman Alarifi, Dr. Mustafa Al-Ramadan, Dr. Khalid Al-Ramadan, and Dr. Zaka Emad.
Several members of the Remote Sensing & Digital Services unit at CPG attended to present innovative CPG technologies used to support research and education, including Shaikha Alsanad, Ali Bashir, Asma Aljuwaei, Mohammed Alghamdi, Mohammed Zaki, and Ruba Alkarnos.
The integration, collaboration and partnership was strong. Several meetings were held with Ma’aden, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources (MIMR), and other mining sector stakeholders to discuss collaboration opportunities and technologies relevant to CPG’s academic and research programs.
50 outstanding CPG students from the Mining Science and Engineering program attended the event, participating with a task to prepare reports and presentations capturing their key takeaways. This hands-on engagement provided the students with invaluable exposure to global industry. They also had the opportunity to meet with HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minster of Energy, who encouraged them to become future leaders in the presence of HE Bandar Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, HE Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment, and HE Khalid Almudaifer, Vice Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs.
Within the KFUPM booth, CPG showcased cutting-edge technologies such as mining-related virtual reality and drone-based site mapping to demonstrate the innovative tools used to support education, training, and research.
Dr. John Humphrey was a speaker in the Knowledge Exchange Program, highlighting the crucial industry need for an educated workforce that is addressed by KFUPM’s mining program.
The FMF 2025 was a significant platform for fostering innovation, collaboration, and educational excellence, aligning with CPG’s vision to equip students for the future of the mining industry.
