Shaping the Future of Mining - Opportunities for Students, Faculty, and Researchers
Mining Science & Engineering is the application of the basic sciences to the development, practicing mining engineers, and field processing of mining.
The program will produce professionals who will be fully prepared for a mining engineering career. The combination of advanced skills, ethics and value for human life and environment will make them leaders. Thus, they will make a difference within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, or wherever they choose to practice. This is aligned with mission of the institution. The focus on supporting the national mineral industry and help secure Saudi Arabia’s future, and the development of advanced skills align with the mission of the college.
All undergraduate programs of the College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences have received either national or international accreditation. The B.S. in Mining Science & Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
Graduation Requirements
The minimum requirements for getting B.S. degree are 155 credit hours distributed between University, Engineering Faculty, and Department requirements. There are two B.S. Programs: conventional and cooperative. The core and major courses render more emphasis on design so a senior project, for example, focusing on engineering design in an integrated manner to represent a mining project from the beginning of exploration to marketing and the environmental impact. Thinking creatively within a group is a major target of this course under the supervision of all faculty members in the department to learn how to link different areas of mining engineering. In addition, students have been required to attend two-month summer training program to experience real-life situation in mining projects that approved by Engineering College after completion of 120 credits.
