Faculty Position (all ranks, Assistant to Full Professor) – Potential Fields Geophysics

 

King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences (CPG), the Department of Geosciences invites applications for a faculty position at any rank in the domain of potential fields geophysics with an emphasis on land/airborne gravity and magnetics including data acquisition, QC and processing (2D and 3D modeling and inversion). In addition, EM, resistivity and EMT are desired. We seek an outstanding individual to boost the Department’s reputation for cutting-edge research and dedicated teaching.

The Department has a strong tradition and international reputation in applied undergraduate and graduate education and offers accredited B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in geology and geophysics. The Department has 18 full-time faculty, 3 lecturers, five post-docs, five supporting staff, and approximately 63 undergraduate majors and 64 graduate students. Programs are enhanced through close collaboration with the Department of Petroleum Engineering and the Center of Integrated Petroleum Research (CIPR) within the College and with other departments on campus. The department has a broad range of geophysical and computational facilities, in addition to University-shared facilities. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong and vibrant research program and establish an international reputation through publication, in addition to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, directing graduate research, and supervising thesis projects. It is expected that this position will enhance CPG-KFUPM research focused on natural resources, energy, and the environment with an emphasis on petroleum systems, and/or tectonics.  Candidates must have a strong record of research and teaching, and they must have received a Ph.D. in geophysics or a related field by the time of their appointment. 

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a doctoral degree with an emphasis on potential fields such as gravity and magnetic methods, EM and resistivity. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success, high-quality research, and scholarship. Research interests should complement and support existing campus programs, and candidates with connections to industry research groups in the domain of non-seismic methods for O&G are desired. Applicants should demonstrate the potential for successful teaching and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Compensation: Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. KFUPM and CPG provide an attractive benefits package including free on-campus housing, fully paid health insurance, dependent education aid, and paid tickets for annual repatriation holidays. The annual contract includes two months of paid summer holiday.
