Dr. Kausar Sultan Shah
Assistant Professor, Department of Petroleum Engineering
Dr. Kausar Sultan Shah a distinguished expert in Mining Engineering, joined the College of Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences (CPG) at KFUPM in May 2026, bringing extensive expertise and a strong commitment to innovation and excellence in the field of mining engineering. Prior to joining KFUPM, he served at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan, where he contributed to teaching, research, and academic development in mining engineering, with particular emphasis on rock mechanics, remote sensing, mine safety, and surface mine design. Dr. Shah earned his Ph.D. in Mining Engineering, specializing in rock mechanics, from Universiti Sains Malaysia. His doctoral research focused on the effects of differential weathering on the macro- and micro-scale failure characteristics of sandstone in semi-arid regions. His broader research interests include rock mechanics, mine safety, predictive analytics in mining, mine accident analysis, and the modeling and optimization of surface mining operations.
With strong academic, research, and industry experience, including practical exposure to coal mining operations, Dr. Shah is dedicated to advancing innovative and sustainable solutions to complex mining and geotechnical challenges.
