The new College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences, or CPG, offers a combination of three elements that cannot be matched by any other college in the world: integration, industry access and legacy. It’s a place where people can ‘explore, learn and solve’ to advance the sustained delivery of reliable energy, with minimum impact on the environment.
When we talk about integration, we mean that students learning about petroleum engineering may well be in the same classroom as those studying geosciences. Our research, too, will consider ways that these disciplines can work together more effectively. We need this approach because, in today’s energy world, we can’t afford to work in silos.
CPG is closely aligned with industry, offering unprecedented access to the resources, knowledge and capabilities of a wide variety of global energy companies. We are building a collection of unique and valuable partnerships with industry and other universities that will offer a wealth of opportunities for students and faculty.
Finally, CPG was born out of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, which has a rich legacy of academic excellence. We intend to build on the legacy, expanding the University’s research capabilities in a way that could never have been imagined when it was founded. And let’s not forget that the College sits, literally, on the birthplace of modern petroleum production, the Dammam Dome.
By bringing together the Departments of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences, and creating the Center for Integrative Petroleum Research, we are creating a powerhouse of fundamental and applied research. Our goal is no less than to have CPG be THE place to be in terms of petroleum research and education. Welcome.
